Thoughts become dreams

Grosser: So, what are your goals? What do you hope to accomplish through this independent study?

Me: I'd love to get published in the Administrative Science Quarterly.

Grosser: Good. Do you have four years?

I will never forget this initial meeting we had at Tissane’s. I am not sure he knew what to make of me after that response, which I delivered without a beat. I am confident, though, that while it was wildly ambitious in that response, I am working everyday towards my goal. I learned what it takes to get started, what it takes to “make it” in academia—or at least a taste of it—and though my thoughts are only dreams, I continue to work to turn those dreams into reality. This initial conversation only served as a boundary, not a limitation.
